***UPDATE: I recieved a call from California Closets that they are unhappy with my poor, but true Yelp review, so while they were considering compensating me for my poor experience with a $300 discount, they will no longer consider that because I wrote this review. I feel like I've been a very reasonable customer, not overreacting to the multiple trips and problems, but evidently telling the truth about your experience is outside the bounds of legitimacy for them. To be fair I did not go with California Closets so this review is really based more so on interaction with the designer and overall customer service. I had gotten two quotes from other companies and figured I'd get a third so I called Cal Closets despite the less than stellar reviews here on Yelp. I did the whole email thing on their website and I got a call from an Office Manager telling me a designer would be calling me the same day. Three days passed and I never heard from anyone. Do Not Use Them! I had a similar experience as some of the other people who commented. A job that was suppose to take a day took almost 2 weeks. They came with the wrong materials several times, did not have certain things they needed for the job, installed defective materials with scratches and nicks. I had to say - that is not right you have to re-do that. They said they were coming back the next day and never showed up or called. I scheduled a home appointment for today with Kyle at the Dorr Avenue location. Before I left for the condo where the closet organizer is to be, I called to confirm the appointment and to be sure that the salesperson was running on time. Kyle assured me that everything was running on schedule. I waited 1 1/2 hours for a no-show appointment. You pay a premium for California Closets, so you expect a really good product and really good service. California Closets is generally well-respected and some of its products are really unique, but this local franchise has failed to meet my expectations on multiple occasions. The materials they produced were defective and had to be redone and the installation process was a terrible experience (sending someone out on his first day with no training and failing to supervise his performance, and then sending out other workers ... read more

The build quality was only "fair" and I had to help the installer to get the job done. The follow-up was poor and I had to call the store manager to get cooperation. They missed a scheduled appointment and left the notification on my office voice mail (on a Saturday when I was at home) in stead of calling me at home to tell me they were not coming.

We had a pretty big job, a complete home office, done by them (Nov 2011). The total was around $17,500. When we contacted them 4 days before the installation date to push it back 3 days, the manager said that since we were within the contract's 5 day notification period, he'd impose the 10% penalty, or $1750! To move from a Monday to a Thursday! We offered to wait weeks instead, and to be added to the end of the line for installations. No way, according to him.
